This is a 2010 Caol Ila single malt from Islay, bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd as part of its Antipodes collection. It is in a 700ml bottle at 56.8% ABV and has a topaz colour.
The whisky was finished in a cask that previously held Moscatel sweet wine. Honeyed and candied notes underline the influence of that wine, alongside the subtle peat and smoke of the distillery.
The nose offers delicate ashy smoke, oily peat, lime blossom, pineapple, apricot, date and fig. The palate is peaty, with sea spray, sea salt and shellfish, and the long finish combines peat with lime blossom honey, chalk, saffron and cardamom.
