This is a single cask Caol Ila distilled in 2010 and finished in a Moscatel hogshead, a cask previously used for sweet wine. It is an Islay single malt bottled at 56.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle, from the Antipodes collection under the Port Askaig label.
The nose has delicate ashy smoke and oily peat with lime blossom, bay leaf, candied pineapple and apricot, dates and figs. The palate is lively, with peat, sea spray, sea salt and shellfish, then porridge, germinating barley and a liquorice bitterness. The finish is long, with peat and lime blossom honey, chalk, chocolate, saffron and cardamom.
