This is an 8 year old Caol Ila from Islay, distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2019 for Wilson & Morgan. It was matured in first fill bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
It shows the distillery style alongside the influence of those casks. The peat is hinted at on the nose, which is medicinal and phenolic, with farmy notes and a touch of butter and vanilla. The palate opens with iodine, ash and tar, then turns to banana and ripe white wine before becoming mineral and lemony. The peat stays hot and thick for several minutes.
