Caol Ila – 25 Year Old (70cl, 43%)

This is a 25 year old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It was introduced in 2010, following cask strength 25 year old releases in 2004 and 2005, and is the first official Caol Ila 25 year old bottled at 43%. It has a rich, gentle mouthfeel and restrained, coal-like phenols. The nose is sweet and spicy with fresh sea air and hints of preserved fruit, and water brings out polished wood. The palate is sweet and fruity with a balancing bitterness, and the smoky, medicinal character is controlled. The finish is long and sweetly drying, with more smoke coming through.
