Caol Ila 25 Year Old is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It was matured for a minimum of 25 years in a mixture of American and European oak casks.
Smouldering charcoal and maritime notes run through it. The smoky, medicinal character Caol Ila is known for is controlled rather than exuberant at this age.
The nose is sweet and spicy, with fresh sea air and hints of preserved fruit; a little water brings out polished wood. The palate is sweet and fruity with a balancing bitterness, and the finish is long and sweetly drying, with more smoke coming through.
