A 25 year old Caol Ila from Islay, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It was introduced in 2010, after cask strength versions in 2004 and 2005, and was the first official Caol Ila 25 year old bottled at this strength.
It has a rich, gentle mouthfeel and restrained, coal-like phenols. The nose is sweet and spicy, with fresh sea air and preserved fruit; water brings out polished wood. The palate is sweet and fruity with a balancing bitterness, the smoky, medicinal character controlled rather than exuberant. The finish is long and sweetly drying, with more smoke coming through.
