This is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky from Caol Ila, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of its Centenary celebrations. It was distilled in 1966, matured for 29 years in a sherry cask and bottled in 1995 at 40%, in a 70cl bottle.
The colour is amber with orange hues. The nose is delicate, likened to a very old Sauternes, with anthracite, wet earth, apricot juice, light honey and subtle peat. The palate has baked apples, mead, soft pepper, apricot pie, crystallised oranges, toasted brioche and a note of smoked salmon. The finish is quite long, toasted and peaty, with dried figs.
