Cedar Ridge The QuintEssential is an American single malt made in Swisher, Iowa, by the Quint family, and bottled at 46% in a 750ml bottle. Master Distiller Jeff Quint and his son Murphy created it together.
It starts with two-row barley from Canada, split into a peated batch and an unpeated one. The peated part spends four to five years in former Cedar Ridge bourbon barrels. The unpeated part spends two to three years in the same, then is finished in former rum, port, brandy, sherry and wine barrels. The two are blended using a solera system.
The nose is spicy, with cinnamon sweetness, sarsaparilla, unripe peach, tea biscuits and milk chocolate. The palate opens on vanilla ice cream before spice carries through.
