Christian Brothers VS is a California grape brandy bottled at 40% in a 75cl bottle. The brand grew out of a Catholic teaching order, the De La Salle Christian Brothers, who made brandy in California's wine country, and it is now owned by Heaven Hill Brands.
The brandy is distilled in copper pot stills and aged for two to six years in bourbon barrels rather than wine casks, which adds vanilla and caramel to the fruit of the grapes.
The nose is warm vanilla and brown sugar with dried fruit and a little maple. The palate moves from vanilla and caramel to brown sugar and light winey fruit, with oak and some tannic grip. The finish is warm and moderately long, with woody, lightly spiced notes.
