Cladach is a blended malt from Diageo's 2018 Limited Release series, bottled at 57.1%. The name means coastline in Gaelic, and it brings together malts from six coastal distilleries: Inchgower, Clynelish, Talisker, Oban, Caol Ila and Lagavulin.
It was matured in new American oak ex-bourbon casks, refill American oak hogsheads, refill European oak butts and European oak ex-bodega butts.
The nose is maritime, with sea air, warm sand, seaweed and varnish around a peppery core, then honey, lemon and fruit cake. The palate is salty after a slightly sweet start, with smoky warmth, honey and citrus. The finish is sharp, spicy and lightly smoky, with orange peel, salt and vanilla.
