Cleveland Black Reserve is a bourbon from Cleveland Whiskey in Ohio, bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof) in a 750ml bottle.
It begins with about six months in a conventional barrel. The staves are then placed in the whiskey inside a pressure chamber, where the pressure rises and falls over roughly a week to speed up the contact between spirit and wood.
The nose is sweet vanilla oak and butterscotch with caramel, citrus peel and black pepper. Clove and cinnamon open the palate, with grapefruit bitterness and a little smoke later on. The finish is long and peppery, ending in pecan pie and raisins.
