Clyde May's Special Reserve is an Alabama-style whiskey from Conecuh Ridge Distillery, bottled at barrel strength, 55% or 110 proof, in a 750ml bottle. It is non-chill-filtered. The mashbill is 55% corn, 30% rye and 15% malted barley, aged six to seven years in new charred American oak barrels and finished with dried apples.
The nose is stewed apples and ripe pears with caramel, nutmeg, cinnamon and clove. The palate opens sweet with butterscotch and brown sugar, then baked apple pie, chocolate and assertive baking spice. The finish is long and tannic, with cinnamon and clove, then brown sugar fading into dry oak.
