Clynelish – 12 Year Old 1970s

This is a 12-year-old Clynelish, a Highland single malt released as a distillery bottling in the 1970s in the white label design. Ainslie & Heilbron, a subsidiary of DCL, still held the licence for the distillery at the time. The whisky inside was distilled in the 1960s at the original Clynelish distillery, which had been renamed Brora by the time this bottling appeared. It is described as thick and oily, with engine oil, coal and wild flowers, concentrated coastal character, minerality and flint, delicate oily phenols and a great deal of wax. Metallic notes of paraffin, camphor, resin and polish sit alongside white fruits.
