This is a 12 year old Clynelish from the 2022 Special Releases, the annual collection of cask strength whiskies from the Diageo distilleries. It is called The Wildcats Golden Gaze and is bottled at 58.5% ABV.
The whisky had a second maturation in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks, which adds a spicier side to the fruit and waxy texture of the distillery.
The nose is creamy, with light fruit and herbs, tinned pears, heather honey and oak spice. The palate is smooth and full, with wine-sweet richness and balanced pepper. The finish is long, chilli-spiced and drying.
