Compass Box The Peat Monster is a blended malt Scotch whisky bottled at 46%. This is the original version, which still carries the old 'Vatted Malt' name. Islay and Highland malts make up the vatting, with Caol Ila and Laphroaig contributing a large share, alongside Ardmore, Ledaig and a few other Highland malts.
It was matured in refill and first-fill American oak ex-bourbon casks, and it is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The nose is sweet, ashy peat smoke with floral and maritime notes, salted butter and honeyed pears. The palate starts light and builds, with sooty smoke, salinity and a bitter oak edge. The finish is medium to long, with ashy peat and dry oak.
