The Spaniard is a Compass Box blended malt from 2018, inspired by John Glaser's travels through Spain. It is built mainly on malts matured in first-fill sherry casks, both PX and Oloroso, with further malts from red wine and bourbon casks. Deanston, Glen Elgin, Teaninich and other Highland distilleries are part of the blend.
The nose offers raisins, figs, orange peel, red wine, soft spice and honey. The palate is rich and fruity, with sherry sweetness, red berries, chocolate, vanilla, peach and warm oak. The finish is medium to long, softly spicy and sweet.
