Crown Royal is a blended Canadian whisky, bottled at 40% in a 750ml bottle. It was created in 1939 to mark the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada, and it is made at the Gimli Distillery on the shores of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba.
The blend brings together 50 whiskies, each distilled and aged separately before the master blender marries them. The grain is rye, maize and barley from Manitoba and the surrounding provinces.
The nose shows vanilla, warm oak, cinnamon, clove, caramel and dried apple. The palate is soft, with caramel, brown sugar and a little rye spice. The finish is short and smooth, with mild oak and vanilla.
