Cult of Islay is a 33-year-old blended Scotch from Murray McDavid's Mission Gold series. It combines the Islay malts Bowmore and Laphroaig with single grains from North British and Cameronbridge. It was distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2022.
After more than 33 years in sherry and bourbon casks, it was finished in a first-fill Premier Cru wine barrique from Chateau Margaux.
The nose shows black cherries, ripe blackberries and creamy vanilla ice cream, wrapped in sweet smoke. The palate brings marked peat smoke, floral notes and fine oak spice. The long finish recalls heather and salty coastal air.
