Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye (75cl, 45%)

A Pennsylvania rye from Mountain Laurel Spirits in Bristol, Pennsylvania, bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The mash is 80% rye, 15% malted barley and 5% malted rye, run through a combination pot and column still. It is aged for a minimum of six months in charred new oak quarter casks, which hold roughly 15 gallons, well under the standard 53-gallon barrel. The nose brings rye grain, fresh-cut grass, sweet spice and bitter herbal notes. On the palate, rye spice and heat give way to citrus peel, cinnamon and crushed nuts, with a little rock candy sweetness. The finish is moderately long, with light char and ginger spice.
