Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Straight Rye is a Monongahela-style rye in the pre-Prohibition tradition, distilled and bottled by Mountain Laurel Spirits in Bristol, Pennsylvania. It is aged for over four years in 53-gallon Missouri oak barrels and bottled at 47.5% ABV.
The sweet mash is 80% Pennsylvania rye, 15% malted barley and 5% malted rye, with no corn. It is fermented for a week and pot-distilled. The recipe was developed over two years with Michigan State University's Artisan Distilling Program.
The nose is rye grain, oak and green apple with rye grass and burnt sugar. The palate is smooth and lush, with rye spice, malt sweetness, orchard fruit, cinnamon, mint and chocolate. The finish is long.
