Daftmill 12 Year Old is a single malt from a family-owned farm distillery in the north-east Lowlands of Scotland, founded by Francis and Ian Cuthbert in 2005. This Winter Batch Release was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2020, at 46% in a 70cl bottle.
It was matured in first-fill bourbon casks, and that shows in notes of vanilla, peaches and warm, spicy cream. It was distilled in the middle of winter, yet it is described as summery in character, and a little time in the glass brings more complexity.
