David Nicholson 1843 is a Kentucky straight bourbon at 100 proof, or 50% ABV, in a 750ml bottle. The recipe dates to 1843, when St. Louis grocer David Nicholson first made it. It is now distilled and bottled in Bardstown by Lux Row Distillers.
The mash bill is wheated, with wheat in place of rye. The bourbon is aged in new, charred American oak barrels.
The nose has honey, vanilla and buttered corn with oak, toasted grain and caramel apple. The palate is creamy, with butterscotch, maple and sweet corn, gentle oak spice and a little cocoa. The finish is long and warming, with vanilla cream, caramel and baking spice.
