Routin Rouge is a red vermouth from the Distillerie des Alpes in Chambéry, Savoie, a recipe that traces back to 1883 and the herbalist and liquorist Philibert Routin. It uses 24 plants and spices, among them wormwood, coriander, clove, lavender and vanilla.
The plants are macerated in Jacquère wine, then blended with French Sauvignon white wine. Despite its red colour, the base is white wine. Half of the finished vermouth is aged in oak casks.
