Doc Swinson's Exploratory Cask Series Pineau des Charentes is a straight bourbon bottled at 55.4% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It blends two bourbons, aged 5 years 4 months and 5 years 10 months, from a 60% corn, 36% rye, 4% malted barley mash bill and a 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley one. Both were matured in charred American white oak and sourced from MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
The blend then spent nine to fourteen months in Pineau des Charentes casks. Pineau des Charentes is a French aperitif made from grape juice and young Cognac, and this is said to be the first time it has been used to finish a bourbon.
Tasting notes mention brown sugar, buttery oak and raisins on a muted nose, then summer fruits and jam, cinnamon and green peppercorn on the palate.
