Femme de Champagne is the prestige cuvée of Duval-Leroy, a family-owned house based in Vertus in the Côte des Blancs. It is made from 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir, all from Grand Cru vineyards.
Thirteen per cent of the base wines are matured in second-passage French oak barrels, while the rest is vinified in stainless steel. The oak adds richness and texture to a Chardonnay-led blend.
The nose offers brioche and buttery croissant, candied lemon peel and mandarin, with a little vanilla. The palate is taut and structured, with baked apple, almond and honey carried by a fine, silky mousse. The finish is long and dry, with toasted almond and lemon zest.
