Fielden Fieldnotes Hazybower is a rye whisky made at Oxford Distillery from heritage grain grown across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Norfolk. The mash is 70% rye, 20% wheat and 10% malted barley, with some rye and wheat grown together as traditional maslin. Its theme is the clover, poppies, thistles and mayweed that grow beside the grain, and it is limited to 1,000 numbered bottles.
After a minimum of 36 months, 85% of the whisky came from second-fill American oak and 15% from an old Hungarian oak Tokaji wine cask. The two were married for 62 days before bottling at 46.3% ABV.
The nose is fresh citrus and blossom with custard and warm scones. The palate brings lemon tart, cream and nuts, and the finish is peppery and gingery.
