Gancia Vermouth Bianco (1L)

This is a bottle of Gancia Vermouth Bianco in a 100cl size, dating from the 1950s or 1960s. Vermouth is an aromatised wine, a style first made in Turin in 1786. By law it must contain at least 75% wine, reach a strength between 14.5% and 22% and include artemisia, the mugwort whose German name, Wermut, gave the drink its name. Producers traditionally flavoured young, high-strength wines such as Moscato with aromatic spices. Vermouth is the usual base of cocktails such as the Martini, the Americano and the Negroni, and it is also drunk on its own.
