Gleann Dubh 16 Year Old The Dark Glen (70cl, 43%)

Gleann Dubh The Dark Glen is the peated single malt from the Glenora Distillery on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Made from malted barley, it is matured for 16 years on the island and bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. The name looks back to Glenora's dispute with the Scotch Whisky Association over the word Glen, which the distillery won. For this peated whisky it chose a darker, separate identity. The smoke is pronounced and sits with fruit, malty sweetness and nutty touches. Smoke and peat lead the nose, with baked-apple fruit. Smoked pear and hazelnut come through on the palate, with a hint of rosemary, and the finish combines apple, caramel sweetness and cream.
