Glenkinchie – 24 Year Old Special Release 2016 (57.2%)

This is a 24 year old Glenkinchie from the 2016 Diageo Special Releases. It was distilled in 1991, matured in refill European oak and bottled at a cask strength of 57.2%. The outturn was 5,928 bottles. Glenkinchie is a Lowland distillery. This release is heavier than most from the distillery, with balanced fresh and dried fruit over a background of spice. The nose combines sweet citrus, sugar flowers and royal icing, with a hint of Eccles cake fruit. The palate is darker than expected, with spiced sponge and sultanas, apple squash and tropical fruit juice. The finish brings sugared almonds, aniseed ball warmth and juicy orange.
