This is a 15 year old Glenlivet single malt, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. Part of the spirit is matured in French oak casks, and the distillery was among the first to use French oak for whisky.
The Limousin oak is cut in the Dordogne region of France, where it is often used to mature cognac. Its low density lets the whisky sink deep into the wood, and the time in cask is controlled so the oak does not overpower the spirit, aiming for a pleasing spiciness.
The nose is rich and oaky, with fudge, Madeira and apple crumble. The palate brings winter spice, and the finish is long, dry and peppery.
