Glenmorangie – Alta Private Edition No. 10 (70cl, 51.2%)

Glenmorangie Alta is the Private Edition released for the tenth anniversary of Glenmorangie's Private Edition series. The name comes from the Scottish Gaelic word for wild, and it is the first Glenmorangie made with yeast that grows wild on the distillery's own barley. Dr Bill Lumsden came across the yeast while collecting samples of Cadboll barley from fields near the distillery. He used it only to ferment the local barley it came from. The colour is pale straw. The nose has baked yeast, clove, Parma violet, fresh bread, soft raisins and sweet mandarin. On the palate come fresh citrus, butterscotch, creamy vanilla and orange syrup, with a little mint. The finish is long and earthy, with bitter orange and peppermint.
