Glenmorangie – Companta Private Edition 5 (70cl, 46%)

Glenmorangie Companta is the fifth bottling in the distillery's Private Edition series, a Highland single malt in a 70cl bottle at 46% ABV. It began in ex-bourbon casks and was then given an additional maturation in casks from renowned French wine estates, among them Clos de Tart, a Burgundy grand cru site, and casks that held a fortified sweet wine from the Côtes du Rhône. The result balances pronounced spice with rich, soft sweetness. The nose has red berries and autumn aromas, with a hint of fragrant wood smoke beneath nutty oak. The palate is spicy, with cherries and compote, candied plums, blood orange, rosehip syrup, milk chocolate and brown sugar. The finish is long and lingering.
