Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1997 is a Highland single malt aged for over 23 years. Its heart was matured in Chateau Montrose red wine casks from Saint-Estephe in Bordeaux, a cask type the distillery had not used before.
The final marriage also includes whisky aged wholly in bourbon casks, which hints at Glenmorangie's citrus notes, and whisky finished for many years in oloroso sherry casks, which adds sweetness and spicy finesse. A selection of other casks completes the blend.
It is described as vivacious and floral, with red fruits and candied sweetness.
