Hakushu 18 Year Old Peated Malt is a Japanese single malt marking the 100th anniversary of the Hakushu distillery in Yamanashi, in the Japanese Alps. It was bottled in 2023 at 48% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky matured for 18 years in a mix of American oak, Japanese mizunara oak and ex-sherry casks. Part of the malted barley is peated.
The nose pairs gentle peat smoke with green apple, yuzu and pine, with honey and menthol. The palate is smoky yet crisp, with orchard fruit, mint, toasted oak and hints of pineapple and coconut. The finish is long, with smoke, black pepper, ginger and green tea.
