PR 20/90 is a multi-vintage Brut Champagne from Henri Giraud in Aÿ, made on the Perpetual Reserve principle. It draws on two solera systems: a younger one begun in 1990 and topped up with 20% new wine each year since, and an older one dating to the 1950s.
The two are blended and finished in oak from the Argonne forest, which the house uses for its toast, smoke and spice and a gently oxidative complexity.
On the nose and palate come pie crust, cedar, nutmeg, dried apple and pineapple, with tea leaf, dried fruit and apple pie. The body is full and layered, yet tight and focused, ending in a slightly spicy finish.
