This Special Operations Salute edition from Heritage Distilling is a five-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon in a 750ml keepsake bottle. It honours the relationship between President John F. Kennedy and the Green Berets, whose motto is De Oppresso Liber, meaning to free the oppressed.
It is bottled at barrel strength, 61% ABV, in recognition of 1961, the year Kennedy visited Fort Bragg and approved the green beret for Special Forces soldiers. The mash bill is 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% barley, matured in new medium charred American oak.
The nose brings brown sugar, toasted plantain and honey, and the palate tart black cherry, baked oatmeal and thyme.
