A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 5 is the fifth annual release in High West's port-finished rye series. It is a Utah straight rye whiskey bottled at 49.3% ABV, in a 750ml bottle.
The rye is finished in French oak port wine casks and in French Limousin oak. The port casks add dark fruit, cocoa and sweetness to the pepper and grain of the rye, while the Limousin oak brings tannin structure and vanilla.
The nose has brandied cherries, Calimyrna figs, allspice, grapefruit zest and vanilla caramel. The palate brings dark cherry, cocoa, cinnamon and spiced plum, ending in warming rye spice with lingering port sweetness.
