This is a 21 year old single malt from Highland Park, the distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney, which has been making whisky since 1798. It is the 2020 release, bottled at 46%.
It was created from 55 hand-selected casks laid down in November 1998, in three types: sherry-seasoned first-fill European oak hogsheads, ex-bourbon casks and refill casks. The colour is a clear, bright, burnished gold.
The flavour is sweet heather honey, sun-ripened oranges, spicy root ginger and fresh vanilla pods. The finish brings lightly toasted oak, warm spices and aromatic peat smoke.
