I.W. Harper 15 Year is a Kentucky straight bourbon from a brand created by Isaac Wolfe Bernheim in 1872. It comes from Bernheim era stocks and was matured most recently at the Stitzel Weller Distillery. It is bottled at 86 proof (43%) in a diamond cut decanter.
The mash bill is 86% corn, 6% rye and 8% malted barley. The colour is deep mahogany with warm amber highlights.
The nose has dried apricot, raisin, vanilla bean, honey, sweet corn, light oak, citrus peel and a little leather. The palate is sweet at first, then moves into caramel, dried fruit, baking spice and a buttery middle of cinnamon and clove. The finish is long, with warm oak and a balance of sweetness and dry spice.
