The Hearach is the first whisky from the Isle of Harris Distillery in the Outer Hebrides. The distillery opened in 2015 in the village of Tarbert and is often called 'The Social Distillery' for the local jobs it has created. Every drop is made by islanders known as 'Hearachs'.
It is bottled at 46% without chill-filtration, after maturation in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks and Oloroso and Fino sherry butts.
The nose combines pineapple, banana, citrus, floral honey and sea breeze over a little peat smoke. The palate is thick and lush, with butterscotch, candy apple, malted barley and a hint of salt. The finish is long, creamy and gently ashy.
