Isle of Raasay – The Chinkapin (50.2%)

The Chinkapin is an Isle of Raasay single malt bottled at 50.2% ABV. It is the distillery's first single malt Scotch matured entirely in chinkapin casks. Peated and unpeated spirit, both made from Scottish barley, are matured separately in new and refill chinkapin casks, then married. Chinkapin is a North American oak rarely used for whisky, and the casks are made to the distillery's own specification, heavily charred and toasted. The nose offers wood smoke and rich dark fruit. On the palate there is barbecue glaze, honey, fresh lime, cinnamon and smoked ham. The finish brings sandalwood and long, fragrant smoke.
