James E. Pepper Barrel Proof is a bourbon bottled at 52.8% ABV in a 75cl bottle, straight from the barrel, uncut and unfiltered. It was distilled and bottled at the James E. Pepper Distillery in Lexington, Kentucky.
It blends the distillery's oldest stocks from distinct mash bills of corn, rye, malted barley and malted rye, with an average age of 5.5 years. The whiskey matured in new toasted and charred Kentucky oak barrels. The decanter-style bottle recreates one made at the distillery in 1945.
The nose offers toasted oak, walnut, syrup, marzipan and anise. Dried dark fruit and citrus peel follow on the palate, and the finish is medium-long with creamy vanilla, clove and nutmeg.
