Jefferson's Ocean Voyage 22 Wheated is a Kentucky straight bourbon from the Aged at Sea series, in which barrels travel aboard a ship after a minimum of four years maturing on land. This edition uses a wheated mash bill, with wheat replacing rye as the small grain.
It is a single barrel release of 119 bottles, bottled at 45% (90 proof) by Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood.
The nose is caramel and butterscotch with dried cherry, wild grains and sea spray. The palate leads with sea salt caramel, vanilla and brown sugar, with autumn fruit and dried apricot. The finish is smooth and subtle, with woody caramel, gentle mint and a touch of brine.
