The Ramu is an 8 year old Japanese whisky from Kaiyo's Wood Library Series, made from 100% malted barley and bottled at 46% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
It spent six years in new mizunara oak casks in a Japanese warehouse, then three months at sea on the voyage from Osaka to the UK, where it continued to mature in the same casks. A further two years in rum agricole casks from the Martinique producer JM Rhum completed the whisky.
The nose brings vanilla frosting, light caramel, incense and citrus peel oils. On the palate come sweet melon, honey, grapefruit peel and rum-raisin ice cream with deep spice, followed by honeyed mizunara, vanilla custard and lemon shortbread.
