Kanosuke – Single Malt (70cl)

This is a single malt whisky from the Kanosuke Distillery in Kagoshima, Japan, in a 70cl bottle. The distillery began operating in 2018 and is named after Kanosuke Komasa, second-generation leader of the company. The whisky is made using all three of its copper pot stills and matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, sherry and re-charred virgin oak barrels, the last of which previously held a rice shochu. The nose brings banana, lemon cake, Japanese confectionery and tropical fruit. The palate shows candied quince, ginger spice, camp smoke, pineapple and lemon meringue, with pepper and oak. The finish is gentle, with salty sea air.
