This is a single malt from Kanosuke Distillery in Kagoshima, Japan, finished in Double IPA casks. The spirit is the distillery's shochu re-char cask malt, put back into casks that first held Kanosuke whisky and were then used by two craft breweries to age hop-forward beers. Several finished parcels were vatted together, one rich and weighty, one light and aromatic.
It is bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle, as a small-batch release.
The IPA casks bring hop aroma, citrus and a gentle hop bitterness, with notes of grapefruit peel and lemon tea. The shochu re-char casks add a Japanese spice, and the character is honeyed with a lime-like brightness.
