Karuizawa 1984 Number One Drinks Single Cask – Bottled in 2012 (70cl, 61.6%)

This is a 1984 Karuizawa from Japan, a single cask bottled by Number One Drinks in 2012. It comes in a 70cl bottle at a cask strength of 61.6% ABV. The nose is deep with dried figs, raisins and ripe plums, alongside old leather, polished oak, sandalwood and cigar box, then dark chocolate, fresh espresso and burnt orange peel. The palate is dense, oily and creamy, with bitter cacao, concentrated toffee, black cherries and thick jam, followed by clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, and a faint touch of smoke. The finish is exceptionally long and warm, with dry espresso, cedar, toasted nuts and smoked plum.
