This Karuizawa was distilled in 1984 and bottled in 2013 from a first fill sherry cask, number 3663. It is a single cask Japanese malt from a distillery that has since closed, bottled at 56.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle, with 354 bottles released. The cask was selected by Number One Drinks.
The nose has cloves and savoury notes, sandalwood, cedar and polished oak, with earthy tones and dark leather. The palate is rich and thick, with plum syrup, raisins, black cherries, coffee beans, ginger, toffee and dark cocoa, plus tobacco and liquorice. The finish is long, savoury and earthy, with pepper and sweet oak.
