Kavalan – Distillery Select No. 1 (70cl, 40%)

Kavalan Distillery Select No. 1 is a Taiwanese single malt from the Kavalan distillery, bottled at 40%. It is chill-filtered and has no added colour. The whisky is a vatting of malts from refill casks, chosen for the flavour wanted rather than for coming from one cask. Its recipe stayed the same when it joined the renamed Distillery Select range in 2020. The bottle has a stepped shape that follows the outline of Taipei 101. The nose combines ripe tropical fruit and floral notes with warm vanilla and wood. The palate is soft and dense, with butter, butterscotch, creamy toffee, vanilla and malt. The finish is sweet and warm, with vanilla, orange oil, sandalwood, five-spice and black tea.
