An eight-year-old single malt from Kavalan's Peatist range, distilled in 2018 and matured in a single ex-bourbon barrel. La Maison du Whisky selected it for the Collection Anthology, and 130 bottles were filled at a cask strength of 54%, without chill-filtering or added colour.
Kavalan is in Yilan, Taiwan, where the warm subtropical climate speeds the uptake of flavour from the wood.
The nose leads with peat, smoke and ash, alongside candied citrus, pear, plum and coconut milk. The palate is full and concentrated, with herbal, salty peat, lemon, resin, ginger and clove. The finish brings pineapple, banana, milky almond, coconut and acacia honey, with fresh peat still present.
